ULTRA RARE w/Original Hardshell Case

Behold one of the rarest of all Gibson solid body electric guitars, there were only 353 non-reverse firebird V's produced in 1965.

This model features a mahogany body, set mahogany neck, 24.75 scale neck, rosewood fingerboard, mother of pearl dot inlays, tune-o-matic ABR-1 bridge, 2 mini humbuckers, engraved Maestro 'Lyre' Vibrola Tailpiece, Kluson deluxe tuners, engraved pickguard, Bonnet knobs with metal caps ("reflector" knobs), vintage sunburst finish, original case.

This model in perfect condition bluebooks between $10,000 - $12,000.  To find one in ANY condition is rare, this one is priced according to condition.  The first production run in 1965 had a slider pick-up switch, the factory later changed this to the more player friendly toggle switch, this one was later 'upgraded' to the toggle switch.  You could revert the toggle to a slider if you wanted to restore this part.  There is typical finish 'checking' on the body and neck (microscopic horizontal lines) that are hard to see in photographs, this is normal for an instrument of this age.  There is a crack on the body and a small crack near the input jack.  Cracking in the control cavity area is common on this model due to the cavity wall thickness.  Our professional technicians have injected epoxy into these areas to reinforce and prevent further cracking, it is now stronger than ever before.  There is evidence larger machine head ferrules were used on this guitar (see face of headstock), grover machines were likely used then reverted back to the original Klusons.  2 of 3 strap buttons look original but could be newer, 2 of 4 backplate screws are non-original.  Case is excellent, all hinges are good, 3 of 4 latches are working, one latch is broken.  This guitar is close to perfect and it graded 8.5/10, with little effort and minimal cost you could easily restore this to 100% original.

To collectors and players the Firebird V is 'The One' to own, unlike the I & III with single coils and the stud/bridge tailpiece, the Firebird V (& VII) has the tune-o-matic and mini-humbuckers, and unlike the VII you can use both pick-ups together, not just 1 at a time.  This is also the very first year of the non-reverse model, it's estimated that approximately 100 of these remain in existence.  This particular guitar has a resonance like no other, it sings when you play it acoustically, you can feel the entire instrument vibrate in your hands, plugged in is almost unbelievable, you'd have to hear it for yourself to believe it.  There is almost no wear on the frets or fingerboard so most of the wear is from handling and age.  This guitar is so rare it's become one of Gibsons 'Holy Grail' guitars and was a custom shop re-issue in 2011.
